Aves Class…

Non of these posts are completed works. I will continually update them as I collect information and media such as audio, video, and photographs.

I AM NOT AN EXPERT. Information can and will, at times, be wrong. This page is my field journal and not intended to be a definitive guide but a place to share notes and discoveries about the wildlife that have entered my lens. You are welcome to contact me if you are a biologist or just know of corrections that need to be made.

The Aves Class Definition:

FROM BRITANNICA - “10,100 living species of vertebrate (backboned) animals primarily adapted for flight with feathers. Warm-blooded with a 4-chambered heart; left systemic arch lost. Lower jaw articulates with cranium via the quadrate; teeth absent in living forms. Reproduction by hard-shelled eggs, nearly always incubated by one or both parents.”

FROM MERRIAM-WEBSTER - “A class of Vertebrata that includes all fossil and recent birds”

FROM BIOLOGY.COM - Aves is a taxonomic class of birds. The class belongs to the phylum Chordata (chordates). Some of their common features: oviparous reproduction, complete double circulation, wings (modified front limbs), feathers, and beak without teeth (except for some Mesozoic fossil birds that have conical teeth in both jaws).
